Operating System

MacVector 17 currently requires a 64 bit Mac running Mac OS X 10.9 or above, including macOS Mojave. MacVector does not run on Mac OS 9 ("Classic") or on Microsoft Windows based "PC" computers. MacVector for Windows is in development. See our compatibility table for a more comprehensive information.

Hardware

Any 64 bit Macintosh computer capable of running Mac OS X 10.9 or later is sufficient to run MacVector. MacVector 17 does not support PowerPC computers.

If you intend to take advantage of the Assembler Next Generation Sequencing support and perform alignments of many millions of reads against entire genomes, we recommend that you use a machine with a minimum of 8 GB of RAM, with 16 GB or more being preferable. RAM is generally more important than raw CPU speed.
