Handling LaserGene (DNAStar) format sequence files
MacVector does not recognize native DNAStar (LaserGene) sequence files. However, several approaches are available for opening these files with MacVector and other applications.
A. DNAStar exports sequences in several formats that are supported by MacVector. The advantage of this approach is that any features and annotations that were added to your sequences should be retained.
Export is used in DNAStar to save the current sequence document in GenBank flat file format, FastA format, or GCG single sequence (.seq) file format.
1. From the File menu, choose Export All As One. 2. Find a location to store your document. 3. Using the pulldown menu, select one of the above formats in which to save the document. 4. Enter a file name and click Save.
B. If any of the desired sequences are present in GenBank at NCBI, then another option is to download them using the Internet Entrez Search tool in MacVector. You could search for and identify them by accession number, gene name, author, etc.
