Using Vector NTI sequence files with MacVector
Export (Save As) your sequence files from Vector NTI in GenBank format, then open them in MacVector
Several options are available for exporting a molecule sequence in Vector NTI to an external file for use in MacVector.
Using the Vector NTI "Save as File" ("Export") option
By default, Vector NTI saves nucleic acid sequences in GenBank format and protein sequences in GenPept format when the File > Save As > Save As File option is used to save individual sequence files. (An alternate approach is the File > Molecule Operations > Export option.)
Note: Other Save As options include Save in DNA/RNA/Protein Database and Remote Sources. Other text file format output options include EMBL (nucleic acid only), SWISS-PROT (protein only), and FASTA (nucleic acid or protein).
MacVector supports each of the above text file formats and can therefore open any Vector NTI nucleic acid or protein sequence files that have been saved using the Save as File option.
Exporting sequences from local or remote Vector NTI databases
Sequences saved in Vector NTI databases can not be read directly by MacVector. Therefore, sequence data stored in Vector NTI databases must be exported as individual text files before they can be used with MacVector. An easy way to export a Vector NTI database molecule to an external file is to select it in the Vector NTI explorer and drag it to the Windows desktop or to a Windows folder. By default, nucleic acid sequences are converted into GenBank text file format while protein sequences are converted into GenPept text file format.
It's also possible to export sequences from the Vector NTI explorer by right-clicking on the desired molecule and selecting Export > Molecule into Text File, and then selecting the desired format. Alternatively, you could use the File > Export menu item.
Another option is to export an entire Vector NTI database as individual GenBank format files. You can do this by opening the Vector NTI Explorer, selecting the type of molecules to export (i.e., DNA/RNA Molecules), then clicking Table > Export > Subset into Directory of Text Files.
Molecules exported from Vector NTI databases using the above methods can be used with MacVector.
