Using KeyServer on a PC or Linux server

Is it possible to install KeyServer on a PC or Unix server, rather than a Mac?

MacVector usage can be controlled by means of a KeyServer running on a Windows or Linux server.

The version of the KeyServer installer that ships on MacVector runs only on Macs. However, KeyServer installers for PCs and Linux servers are available from the following Sassafras web site:

http://www.sassafras.com/revisions/downloads.html

KSServer.exe is the KeyServer Installer for Windows. Install this on the PC server.

KSClient.sea is the Client Installer. Install this on the Mac(s) that will be running MacVector.

KSAdmin.exe is the KeyServer Admin installer for Windows. Install this on your PC.

KSAdmin.sea is the Mac version of the Admin installer. Install thsi on your Mac if you prefer.

After installing the KeyServer, the MacVector license file must be copied to the KeyServer Data folder. It will have a path like the following:

C:\\Program Files\KeyServer 5.2\Server\

Note:A new MacVector license file may be required if you do not already have a license file for KeyServer 5.2. Contact us (support@accelrys.com) if you need a new license file.

After installing the license file, start the KeyServer by double clicking on the KeyServer icon (ks.exe) in the Server folder.

The next step is to install and configure KeyAccess on the client Macs. Before you can do this, you need to obtain the IP address on the PC on which the KeyServer is installed by opening the Windows Command Prompt and typing ipconfig. This will result in a display that contains your IP address.

If your Mac client is using OS 9.x, open the Chooser on your Apple menu and click on KeyAccess. Select the Configure button and check which IP address is present in the IP Host field. If it's not the IP address for your PC as determined above, then toggle the IP Host box until a window appears that allows you to type in the host IP address. Click OK twice, then close the Chooser dialog.

If your Mac is using OS X, then open KeyAccess Setup which is located in the Application / KeyServer Client folder. When the KeyAccess Setup window opens, type the IP address for the KeyServer PC into the field labeled Connection: TCP/IP.
